What is it and why does it appear?
Shaving cuts the hair, waxing pulls it, but the follicle stays and makes it again. The laser destroys it: the energy is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, carried to the follicle and disables it, while the surrounding skin is left intact [1]. Because at any moment only part of the hairs are in the growth phase, 6–8 sessions are needed, every 4–6 weeks, to 'catch' all the follicles. Soprano Ice does this with gradual heating (SHR) and continuous cooling, which is why it is almost painless even on the bikini line, and safe on dark or tanned skin [2]. Result: permanent hair reduction, with no ingrown hairs and no shaving irritation. Blonde, red and white hairs do not respond.
How we treat it
Soprano Ice in a programme of 6–8 sessions per area or full body, with settings per area and skin type. Women: underarms, bikini (standard, deep, Brazilian), legs, arms, abdomen. Men: back, chest, shoulders, abdomen, neck. In summer we carry on as usual, with sunscreen and without heavy exposure of the area.

Before and after: for the first days the hairs are pushed out of the follicle and shed in about 2 weeks. After each session the hair is sparser and finer; from the 3rd–4th the difference is clear and after 6–8 only a few fine hairs remain, kept in check with 1–2 maintenance sessions a year. Ingrown hairs stop from the first sessions.
Tips
- Shave the day before; no waxing, tweezing or depilatory cream for 4 weeks before
- No tanning or self-tanner in the days before
- Aloe and sunscreen after; no sauna or intense exercise for 24–48 hours
- Gentle exfoliation after a few days, against ingrown hairs

Yes, with sunscreen and no heavy sun exposure of the area; we carry on with care, and on tanned skin with the right settings.
Does it hurt?
Minimally, thanks to ICE cooling and gradual heating. Bikini and underarms are more sensitive, but tolerable.

Usually 6–8, every 4–6 weeks; on the legs the interval grows to 8–10 weeks. Then maintenance 1–2 times a year.
On dark skin?
