What is it and why does it appear?

Facial hair in women is often hormonal, especially on the chin and upper lip, and genetic; with a sudden increase a check-up is needed. The laser targets the melanin in the hair: the energy is absorbed by the dark hair and destroys the follicle, while ICE cooling protects the skin [1]. Because the laser acts only on hairs in the growth phase, 6–8 sessions are needed to 'catch' all the follicles. Hormone-dependent chin hairs respond, but usually need more sessions and maintenance. Blonde, red and white hairs do not have enough melanin and do not respond. The gradual SHR heating of Soprano Ice makes the treatment almost painless even on the upper lip, and safe on dark or tanned skin.

How we treat it

Soprano Ice on all facial areas, with settings per area and skin type. For women: upper lip, chin, cheeks, neck or the whole face. For men: beard line, cheekbones, neck, between the brows, nose. If the hair increased suddenly, we suggest a check by an endocrinologist or gynaecologist first.

What to expect

Before and after: for the first days the hairs are pushed out of the follicle and shed in about 2 weeks. From the 3rd–4th session the hair is clearly sparser and finer, and after 6–8 only a few fine hairs remain, kept in check with maintenance 1–2 times a year. On the chin, when the cause is hormonal, maintenance is needed more often.

Tips

  • Shave 1–2 days before; no tweezing or waxing between sessions
  • Soothing cream (aloe, chamomile) afterwards
  • Daily sunscreen and no sun on the area
  • Gentle exfoliation after a few days, against ingrown hairs

Frequently asked questions

Is it permanent?

The reduction is permanent. Some hairs may need maintenance 1–2 times a year, more often when the cause is hormonal.

Does it hurt on the upper lip?

Minimally, thanks to ICE cooling and gradual heating.

Can I shave in between?

Yes, and it is the only method allowed; no tweezing or waxing, because they remove the root the laser targets.

Can I have it in summer?

Yes, with sunscreen and no heavy sun exposure of the area in the days around the session.

Is it for men?

Yes: beard line, neck, cheekbones and between the brows are the most common areas.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the treatments, areas and number of sessions. Add what interests you to your plan and the proposal with prices comes to you on WhatsApp, with no obligation.
