Dull skin: facial glow treatments

Dull skin is usually due to dead cells, dehydration and poor microcirculation, and regains its glow from the first session with exfoliation, hydration and oxygenation: Hydrafacial, carboxytherapy, LED and Dermapen 4, at Essentia in Thessaloniki.

What is it and why does it appear?

Skin glow is light reflected from a smooth, hydrated surface. When dead cells build up, the surface becomes uneven and scatters the light, so the skin looks dull and grey. Dehydration does the same: the epidermis 'puckers' slightly and loses its sheen. Poor microcirculation, from smoking, lack of sleep, stress or a sedentary life, deprives the skin of oxygen and nutrients and gives it the tired look. The sun adds pigmentation and coarse texture (photo-ageing). That is why glow returns quickly: gentle exfoliation and deep cleansing for the smooth surface, hydration for the sheen, oxygenation for circulation [1]. And it is kept with three habits: cleansing, moisturising and sunscreen.

How we treat it

For immediate glow, Hydrafacial. To make it last, a short programme: Glow Therapy (Hydrafacial + carboxytherapy) or Facial Glow (Hydrafacial + Dermapen 4) when we also want better texture. LED is added to every session for soothing and collagen.

Recommended signature combo

Glow TherapyCombo
Glow Therapy

Cleansing and hydration with Hydrafacial, with complementary carboxytherapy for a fresher look.

Facial GlowCombo
Facial Glow

Glow and smoother texture, ideal before an event.

What to expect

Before and after: the glow shows as soon as the Hydrafacial is over and lasts 2–4 weeks, which is why you book it 2–5 days before an event. With the Glow Therapy programme the tone becomes more even and the skin more elastic in 4–6 weeks. Facial Glow needs 1–2 weeks before the event, so the skin has settled after Dermapen.

Tips

  • Cleanse morning and night, without soap
  • Moisturise every day and drink water
  • Sunscreen of at least SPF 30, in winter and indoors too
  • Sleep, movement and a diet with omega-3 and vitamins A, C, E
