What is it and why does it appear?
Every operation leaves swelling behind: the fluid that collects in the tissue while it heals. After liposuction, the body needs weeks to remove the fluid and the skin months to 'settle' evenly on its new base; the better this goes, the smoother the final result. Lymphatic drainage speeds up fluid removal through the lymphatic system and reduces the firm areas (fibrosis) that can remain [1]. LPG Alliance has dedicated, low-intensity recovery programmes after liposuction, abdominoplasty and facelift. At Essentia the care is coordinated with the treating surgeon, starts only when he allows, and follows the stages of healing. For the face after a facelift, the Post-Facelift Care Program in three stages: gentle hydration (Skin Comfort), facial LPG (LPG Facial Care) and hydration maintenance. Because care doesn't end with surgery.
Types
- After liposuction or abdominoplasty: body LPG and Venus Legacy, then EMSculpt Neo when the surgeon allows
- After a facelift: Post-Facelift Hydra Recovery, LPG Facial Care, Skin Hydration Maintenance
- Before surgery: LPG for decongestion and tissue preparation, where the surgeon suggests it
How we treat it
We start with your surgeon's approval and instructions. Body: LPG Alliance twice a week for swelling and firm areas, Venus Legacy for skin adaptation, and EMSculpt Neo later, for muscle tone. Face: gentle hydration and, at the right stage, facial LPG. The programme is reassessed at each stage.
Recommended signature combo
ComboLess swelling and faster recovery after a facelift, once your surgeon allows it.
What to expect
Before and after: swelling after liposuction settles noticeably from the first LPG sessions, firm areas soften within the first weeks and the skin 'sits' more evenly. After a facelift, the face looks more rested and less swollen. The final result of the operation shows sooner and smoother.
Tips
- Follow your surgeon's instructions first: garment, movement, medication
- Water and walking from the first days, if allowed
- No sauna, sun or intense exercise until the surgeon allows
- Tell us immediately about pain, redness or fever
Frequently asked questions
When does lymphatic drainage start after liposuction?
When your surgeon allows it, usually 1–3 weeks after, at low intensity. Dr Papaioannou sets it at the first follow-up.
When does the swelling go?
Most of it in 4–6 weeks, the last of it at 3–6 months. Lymphatic drainage speeds up the first stage.
Massage after liposuction: manual or LPG?
LPG has standardised low-intensity programmes and even application; manual depends on the therapist. We do LPG, always with the surgeon's approval.
Can I come if I had surgery elsewhere?
Yes, with your surgeon's written instructions. If you do not have them, Dr Papaioannou can examine you first.
Does it help before surgery too?
In some cases LPG decongests the tissue before liposuction or for lipoedema; the surgeon decides.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the treatments, areas and number of sessions. Add what interests you to your plan and the proposal with prices comes to you on WhatsApp, with no obligation.
